    Quanta Belt Quandry

I have a stock 66 427/425hp car with original factory Power Steering. The pulleys are original (the belt is driven by the PS pulley to the alternator). The "correct Quanta made GM Part # 3878243 alternator belts seem too long as the the alternator is all the way to the end of the adjuster slot. The alternator bracket is original. The Quanta belt is 3/8 wide which they say is correct. When I use an aftermarket belt with a 7/16 wide belt it works perfectly. Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

Who is supplying your Quanta belt. If it's a vendor from LI that specializes in 63-67 cars it is incorrect. They sell a generic fit belt so that they don't have to stock so many #'s. Been there done that. They also failed to correct the situation. Contact Quanta for the correct belt for your car.

I had exactly the same problem with Quanta belts on my '63. I talked to the guy at Quanta and he said he makes them to the original specs. and sent me another set but they had the same problem. I gave up and put the Quanta's on for judging and then take them off and put GM replacements on for driving.

        Peter,

I purchased three belts from Quanta, and one of them was incorrect. There was no way that the belt they had listed, as correct for my 64 alternator W/CAC, would fit (way too long). I researched the part number in my 1964 Chevrolet Parts Catalog, and it turned out they were selling the wrong belt for the application. I gave them the number of the belt that the manufacture recommended, and it was a perfect fit. If you can get the correct part number for them, they probably have the belt.

When dealing with Quanta I corosponded with Gary Whiting (quanta@eclipsetel.com) who was very knoledgeable regarding Part#, length and pitch of the original and the repro belts. He made good on the 2 incorrect belts I recvd. from LIC. Quality belts Quality vendor.
