I participated in my first Road Tour and it was a lot of fun, I highly recommend it. I left this past Friday morning from Long Island NY and returned yesterday (had to get back to work) and put over 800 miles on my L 72 coupe. The car ran fine except for one issue that I would like some feed-back on. I had a lot of heavy stuff packed in the back section of the car (spare radial tire which would not fit into the tub, hand tools, five gallon plastic jugs of racing fuel (needed the octane) and a couple of overnight bags. Upon leaving, I noticed that when I accelerated a knocking noise was coming from the back of the car. It wasn't until latter on Friday, when I unloaded the spare tire and the jugs of gas onto someone's trailer that the knocking noise went away and the car performed very well. However, yesterday, when I had to put the spare tire back into the car along with the luggage bags and one full five gallon jug of gas that this knocking noise re-ocurred. I should mention, that once I achieved highway speed the noise went away, but to get there, I had to accelerate at a very slow pace. Is this a function of the rear spring being weak as I know it's the orginal one which has not been restored. Sorry for the long post.

Re: Road Tour
John,
I have had the same thing happen to one of my cars and it turned out that I needed to replace the cushion at the front mount of the rear end housing. It seems that they wear out and lose their strength. This allowed the driveshaft u-joint to rub (knock) on the floor during acceleration. Good luck, George- Top
