Believe you'll find the JG states surface coverage of bellhousing varied on SB engines (was painter in a hurry, how careful was the mask placed, Etc.) and that restoring owners should attempt to document and duplicate the original overspray coverage....

Perhaps an easier way to say it is if you go to a swap meet and look under the grime at a lot of Bellhousings, you will find that it is not unusual to have full coverage (except the transmission face area) but it is not present on 100% of the samples either.
