What Is It - 1967 Paper Work

A few recent posts rekindled my interest in what the CORRECT name is for a piece of paper documentation that I have for my Dec. 7th built, 1967 Corvette. I got the 8.5"x 11" sheet from the dealer that sold the car. The sheet has the following information across the top of it -- the dealer code, car No. or route (RAIL), date shipped, zone, car shipper No., date of execution, the invoice number, which matches the number on my MSO sheet.
In the middle of the sheet there are columns with the car serial number and the option numbers, with each being described and showing their prices, the prices shown are the suggested retail prices, car and option prices, D&H prices, and a price which is the total of two columns, the car & option price plus D&H. At the bottom of these columns each option and the cars base price is added together to give a total price. These totals, listed separately, consist of suggested retail price, model dealer net(base car), model D&H, option dealer net, option D&H, destination charge, and invoice total.
Below all of this is the dealers name and address, date of GMAC note and date of interest begins.

Car Invoice Financial Dept. Copy (GMAC)

If it says "Financial Dept. Copy" under the box that says "Date Interest From", then you have the GMAC copy of the car invoice. I was fortunate enough to have one of these for a car I owned. These forms also served as the Promissory Note for the dealer to pay GMAC for the car (if that section is filled in with the car net price and the dealer name and address, in the lower left-hand corner).

It's an extra copy of the wholesale invoice - all the final paperwork for the car was computer-printed in a multi-part packet, about eight copies thick, with the window sticker as the top sheet; the remaining copies all carried the same print-through information, but the pages were formatted differently and included the Car Shipper, several invoice forms, and a unique "Corvette Order" form with boxes to enter the engine, transmission, axle, and key numbers, VIN, and date produced information. Only the Car Shipper, window sticker, and the "Corvette Order" form went with the car; part of the other sheets were retained by the plant, and the wholesale invoice was mailed to the dealer with the (separately-printed) MSO when the car was shipped.

Thanks Johnny, Everett and John for the replies. The form is totally filled out with prices that I really don't think a dealer would want a customer to know. I think now that it could have something to do with a promisary note between the dealer and GMAC.
Everett, under date interest from is "Car Invoice Mailing Copy" with a large #1 in a box that could be sheet/copy #1.
John, would the wholesale invoice sheet have anything pertaining to GMAC on it such as date of GMAC note and date interest from? The GMAC information blocks are part of the standard form. Also John, is it correct to assume that my car and other GM cars shipped from St. Louis had a GMAC promisary note in the name of the dealer in which it was headed? In other words when a dealer ordered a car from General Motors, was GMAC used exclusively?

Warren -

No, GMAC wasn't the exclusive wholesale financer, but probably 95% of the GM dealers used GMAC to floor their inventory, as they were easy to deal with, understood the business, financing was essentially instantaneous and automatic, and GMAC didn't have as restrictive convenants as banks or commercial lenders. Occasionally we'd get "cash holds" on certain units whose dealers were "out of bed" with GMAC for various reasons, and we'd have to hold the car until GMAC notified us that the dealer had paid for the car in cash.

Based on your description (Car Invoice Mailing Copy), and as John stated, it sounds like your particular copy is the one that was mailed/sent to the dealer. My particular copy was marked (in the same area) "Car Invoice Financial Dept. Copy", with a large "2" near it. So, we now have examples of several different pages of the invoice package that John describes - all good stuff for those of us who collect and study the paper trail.

I worked for a motor vehicle dealer once and some of the franchise line vehicles were indeed floored through the franchise-owned financier, but occasionally vehicles were floored through the dealer's own local bank flooring program. Either way, the vehicle manufacturer had to be paid, so the promissory part of these forms is applicable either way - if the dealer used his own financing, the local bank paid GMAC, otherwise GMAC carried the note and got the interest. My copy has a hand-stamped item: "5% Plan, Credit Issued", and a handwritten date and initials, which indicates the note was carried by GMAC.
