    Which carb for a 1970 LS6?

I have just built up a LS6 engine for my 1970 corvette due to the specs of the 1970 LS6 (Chevelle). Finaly I'm not sure which carb I should use. Originaly I think there was a 800cfm double pumper with mech. secondaries. I have now read that this is not recommended for street performance use. I was told to use vacuum secondaries (Holley 3310). Can anyone give me a hint which one to use? What about the Holley Street Avenger 770cfm oder 870cfm?

    Thanks a lot

i would go with the SA 770 for a street driven car and it has a electric choke which the 3310 does not. if you want the orignal holley color you will have to get the 3310 and install a electric choke because the 770 is chrome like in color.

I also put a '70 CRR coded LS6 in a 1970 LS5 coupe, had about $4116.00 into a complete factory rebuild with the exception of .010 overbore. I used the original re-issued Holley, a 800 cfm vacumn secondary (GM's rating was 780 cfm). Worked great! Engine dyno stated 492 hp in stock trim, was a real blast to drive.

          Geezer-----

That's the carb that I'd recommend, too. It should fit and function perfectly and provide a near-stock appearance. However, I don't know if this carb is still being reproduced by Holley. It was for quite a few years, though. One problem, though, is that it's quite expensive.

            the LIST 4053 carb

with the remote choke is still available and it is a 780 CFM carb if you want a factory looking choke

I have a new Holley reproduction of this carb. In fact, it's what I plan to use on my "ZL-1". I purchased it quite some time ago. I think that I paid about $500 for it then. I think that they're more, now.

it would be a special order that a place that sells holley carbs could order.i do not think any one would have it in stock but you could try places like "JEGS" or "SUMMIT". the 2003 holley catalog still lists it as available.

it seems that summit don't have the 4053 anymore. What do you think, would be tha Holley Street Avenger 770cfm a good alternative? Or would you go with the 3310 750cfm which I have actually. What do you think about mechanical secondaries?

if you have the 3310 i would give it a try. you can e mail holley @ carbs@support.holley.com to see if they still have the 4053 and where you could get it. if you do not want to have to "tune" a carb i would stay away from mech secondary carbs because they are "race calibrated" and need work to run on the street correctly.

                          Markus-----

If anyone has the 4053 in stock, it will likely be Chicago Corvette Supply. They specialized in these reproduction Holley carbs and maintained a large stock of them (at least, they used to). Whether they still have any, or not, I don't know.

Holley builds these reproduction carbs in "batches". So, if the unit is not outright discontinued, then it means that if there is no current inventory of it, they may build a new "batch" sometime in the future. Of course, that doesn't help if you need a carb now.

The 4053 was the factory carb on the '68-'69 Camaro Z/28; Rick's First Generation (800-359-7717) has them - about $600.
