    Shifting Thump Revisited

When shifting my 63 4 speed, there is a loud thump as soon as I let off of the clutch. I can avoid the noise with a slow clutch release. The noise seems to be coming from the diff - half shaft - drive shaft area. Tomorrow she goes in the air for investigation. I will be looking at motor mounts, trans mounts, drive shaft u joints, half shaft u joints. I just replaced the snubber bushing. Also, I replaced the front diff seal not long ago. I did not remove the crush collar and did not index the nut to the bolt that holds the yoke in place when I put everything back together. It took most of my strength to get the nut off and I tightened it with the same force. I filled with proper diff fluid and 1 can of posi additive. Am I missing anything? Trailing arms, wheel bearings, crossmember bushings ? Thanks in advance.

you can't just take the pinion nut off and reinstall it without checking your backlash.
