    '63 Temp Gauge

I've recently gotten my '63 340HP up and running. Everything appears to be functioning properly with the engine. Gauges on the dash were connected with most gauges appearing to read properly except with the possibliity of the temperature gauge. Reading the gauge with engine at temperature would make one think the engine is running hot, but never boils over from expansion tank. How is it possible to check the accuracy of the gauge. Thanks.

If you changed the sending unit while working on the engine, there is a strong possibility that you have a miscalibrated sender. The currently offered crop of GM senders almost universaly give false high readings.

First, verify that the gauge is reading high by using an IR thermometer or a regular meat thermometer taped to the underside of the upper radiator hose. If that proves to be the case, search the archives and you will find a wealth of information on the subject. This is one of the most frequently asked questions on this board.
