What is the trick to removing the window regulator in the door (right side) of a 62. I can't seem to get it past the steel brace inside the door.

Re: Removing window regulator from 62 door.
Tom, it's been a while since I did this, but it seems like I either removed the door post or at least loosened it so that I could get clearance on the brace. There's also a bolt at the bottom where you adjust the pitch of the front track that has to be loosened.- Top

Re: Removing window regulator from 62 door.
tom, it's best to remove almost everything inside the door. the regulator is the first thing to go in. when installing or removing the regulator it needs to be in a certain position. by that i mean how far up or down the window position would be. you will need to crank the regulator several times to find the right spot. when you do it will slide right out. good luck- Top

Re: Removing window regulator from 62 door.
Tom,
You have to remove the metal brace that attaches the bottom of the windshield post to the door. there are 2 screws that hold the brace to the post and one at the bottom that allows in/out adjustment of the post bottom. The bottom bolt installs in a slotted hole that allows adjustment of the post. Just take the brace out and crank the regulator to the right position and it will slide right out. The upper 2 screws are phillips head screws with star lock washers and are accessed through holes in the inner door skin.

John,
OK!
I thought that was what needed to be done, but I couldn't be sure.
Do I understnd that there are ONLY 3 bolts to be removed and then the brace comes out? It looked as if there were more than 3.- Top

Re: Removing window regulator from 62 door.
There is a bolt in the front of the door that goes through the brace and threads into the window post. It is located behind the weatherstripping, just below where the door post attaches. Down maybe 1.5". THe hole in the door was filled with putty prior to painting. You'll have to open this hole up to access the bolt and repair/paint when finished.- Top

Re: Removing window regulator from 62 door.
Tom,
If memory serves me right, there are only 3 bolts to remove the brace. You will not need to remove the bolt under the weatherstrip or mess with the window post at all, just the brace at the bottom of the post.

Re: Removing window regulator from 62 door.
John, you may well be right. The times I have had a regulator out I had the whole door pretty much gutted and it may not be necessary. But, some nagging memory tells me that brace attaches to the door post at the top. I'll have to see if I can find a picture.- Top

Addendum
I looked in the ST12 and found the following:
Front brace does not need to be removed or even loosened. The "lower guide assy" does need to be removed and has 3 screws. The window needs to be supported up out of the way if it hasn't been removed.
See Fig 35, page 1-18 in the ST12.- Top
