I attended the annual show at the Art Center for Design in Pasadena yesterday, and the theme was "speed". It was an outstanding event with seminars by Pete Brock and Chuck Pelly, designer of the Chapparal I. Unfortunately Pete's slides on his involvement with the original Stingray were missing, so he wasn't able to say to much about this. There were examples of his work on display including a Scarab, a McClusky Cobra Daytona Coupe replica, and Pelly's Chaparral I. Everything from a new Enzo to a gorgeous '63 ATS (one of six extant of the eight built) along with an assortment of various vintage Italian exotics, and some classics including a coffin nosed '37 Cord and a Talbot Lago. Jay Leno showed up about 2 PM with a custom built 9000 pound roadster powered by a 990 HP air cooled Chrysler V-12 that once powered a M-47 Patton tank.
Considering the theme and the honored guests, there was NOT ONE SINGLE STINGRAY. Is NCRS getting a little too to self-absorbed and disconnected from the collector car world?
