My 63 coupe has the following numbers; 1100668-37A 4E14-12V NEG. I have been told that the alternator should be dated _A_ for January. Any suggestion on how to locate a 40 year old alternator. Was this alternator used on other GM bodies? This would help with the search.

Re: 1963 Alternator search
I have been told to look for Alternator 1100628 as this was used in 1963. One of the books I read said something about a Feb 1, 1963 alternator change. I wonder if this information is correct since my car was assembled Feb 13, 1963?- Top

Re: 1963 Alternator search
Since the alternator was a St. Louis installed item, this is a case where you can
research original source facts in your AIM, particularly the engineering change record. In
this case, the EC record begins with symbol "5" on 3-5-63, so the earlier changes are
lost, but according the the NCRS Spec Guide the 628 was used on all configurations
except C60, and there is no indication in the C60 section of any alternator other than
1100633, but there was a pulley change and the air cleaner base was different, which
may be related to the pulley change.
