    C1 Firewall Resistor

I keep frying my resistor, changed coils, twice, car runs at an idle for quite a while, but under load breaks up, stalls, limps home, then a few minutes later will only run with key in start position. Change resistor and we start all over again. HELP!! Thanks ahead of time for any and all suggestions.

Running only in the start position is a pretty positive indication of a bad ballast resistor. If you are cooking the resistors, I suspect you have a short somewhere that isn't obvious. Check the wire that runs from the passenger side of the resistor to the solenoid. Possibly that wire is shorted somewhere that you can't see. You are running a regular points system in the distributer, right??? Are the points burning? Do you know what the resistance value of the resistors that you are using is? It shouldn't be causing this kind of problem unless it's way out of spec.
