    Brake fluid choices

    Members,
I will soon be installing my new S.S. sleeved calipers and new lines, etc. I am wondering what is the general consensus regarding the type (DOT #) of the brake fluid that I should use?

    Thanks for your comments.

There is an absolutely HUGE amount of information on this in the archives. It's been discussed to death. I don't think that anymore could be said that has been said, so you might want to go back and refer to some of this information. You'll likely come out of it just as much in a quandry as you are now, but, at least, you'll be armed with the pros and cons.

      Brake Fluid

When I did the same with my 60 driver, I used DOT 5 (silicone). Just pour it slowly and bleed carefully and you sill avoid bubbles in the fluid. I tested my brakes in Eisenhauer tunnel (about 11,000 feet) and the pedal was hard. I love the fact that brake fluid on paint now just wipes off with no damage. It does not attract water so corrosion problems are minimal.

Terry has just summarized everything that has been stated regarding DOT 3 vs DOT 5. He should do an article for the restorer and send it to the editor

              Re: Forgive me?

I didn't intend to stir up a hornet's nest with this question. I should have gone to the archives and read the past questions and comments. I guess I did the same thing with my question last week regarding acrylic lacquer paint.

Seems like I have a tendency to step in "do-do".

Thank you all for you patience and great feedback. I really enjoy the technical discussion portion of this web site.

              Best regards,
              Gene
