    283 rear main seal

I'm putting a crank back in a 57 283 and I don't want to use the rope seal. Can anyone here please tell me what the part number is for the neoprene replacement seal kit that uses two pieces of rubber and two pieces of wire? Is it available through NAPA or Victor, or only through specialty houses?

Thanks in advance for any help.

i've gotten several neoprene rear main oil seals from Gary Pronesti, 1 315 472 1984.Real reasonable and they do work much better than the ropes. good luck, mike

      Ken -

Paragon has them - their #4340K; used one on my '57 six years ago, stayed dry as a bone ever since.
