    Midyear Headlight Buckets

Need help with a remedy for a headlight bucket that goes about half way up and stops. If you give a little manual assit, it easliy goes into full open position. It does close correctly without any assist.

    "T"----

With about 95% liklihood, you need new or rebuilt headlight motor(s).

I found it vary easy to remove the motor , take it apart, clean the gears and add new grease AND also to take the motor apart clean the armature and the POINTS which usely is the problem. The points usely need a fine sanding to make a %100 contact or they wont carry the amps causing the motor to stop at times usely in HOT weather. That's my opion.

i'd go with roy's post and if that doen't cure the problem, then its time to send the headlite motors out for a rebuild.mike

I agree with the above. It is easily done, and you will likely find hardened grease inside the transmissions. If the large drive gear shows wear, then rotate it 180*. Be sure to clean and re-lube the external shafts and bushings. Shop manual calls for ordinary motor oil here, and saturate the felt gaskets/rings and squeeze out the excess.

Sure, it's easy to take them apart. What's the....

trick for "easy" re-installation of the ball (Shaft Bearing) into the retainer cage without damage and proper fit?
            Thanks, H.a.N.D.
