I have posted before about this harmonic balancer and now have new information. To recap prior post I put a new GM balancer on my 64 back in 68 when I rebuilt the engine after balance work. The harmonic balancer came off and the Chev garage said I used the wrong one and put another new one on that did stay. I still have the balancer that came off and have some new information to try and identify it. The box it used to be in had GR 0.65 on it. The first part number was a 3 and the last four numbers were 1970. I could not find a match to this in my Corvette parts book.

Re: C2 1964 Harmonic balancer
Jim----
The group number is actually 0.659. The part number in question is GM #3861970. This piece was applicable to 57-61 Corvettes with 283 and most 62-65 Corvettes with 250 and 300 hp. It was discontinued in June, 1971 and replaced by GM #3896904 which remains available. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C2 1964 Harmonic balancer
Joe and Wayne thanks for the replys. I do know that my 64 had the original engine, 327/300 HP. I don't believe the crankshaft was tapped, I do know that if it was and had a bolt and washer to retain the balancer when I dissasembled the engine I would of reinstalled it and not experienced the balancer coming off. What I don't remember is about the box that balancer was stored in for so many years. It could of been the box that the balancer I bought when rebuilding the engine or the box the mechanic removed the balancer from that he put on. Like Joe told me before, I need to get the inside diameter miked to see what size it is.- Top
