Help! C2 Parking Brake Shoe removal & installation

    Hi,

I just removed the brake shoes for the parking brake on my '66 (disc brakes). Now I can't install them again. I find it impossible to install all hardware with the drive shaft in place. Could it be done, or do I have to remove the drive shaft?

If by "drive shaft" you are referring to the spindle (i.e. the part with the 5 wheel lug bolts attached to it), then the answer is, yes. The parking brake shoes can be installed with the spindle in place. It is very tricky, though. A simple tool available from the Corvette vendors facilitiates the process, but, even with the tool, it's tricky.

It's very hard to explain just how to do it but, rest assured, many others have done it.

      Thanks,

It was the spindle I meant. Tricky with the correct technical terms when it's not your native language.

I guess I just have to go on trying.

        Christer,
I just read an interesting article in the Winter 2002 issue of the The Corvette Restorer by Robert Pelland that deals with reinstalling parking brakes. I haven't tried his method, but it looks good on paper. Good luck!

I have bad luck, I haven't got that issue. I became a member only a few months ago.

Any chance of getting a copy via fax? If at all possible, my fax number is International access code + 46 855010795.

            Article Faxed

            Christer-----

I just faxed the article to you. Don't pay any attention to the bottom portion of the second page; it's just the Restorer circulation information which happened to end up on this page. It's unrelated to the article, itself, which is just 1-1/2 pages in length.

              Thanks Joe,

I have read trough it and I will try it tomorrow. I started working with the parking brakes outdoors, thinking that it was an hours work or two. Now I had to make room in the garage by shifting my '62 as far to one side as possible.
