Question re C2 coil spring removal

I am in the process of rebuilding the front end of by SWC. I attended a Bloomington Gold class and purchased a Van Steel Suspension. Both were excellent but used a disc brake car for the basis of the presentation. My questions involve a drum brake car, of course.

How critical is it to remove the brake system from the steering knuckle? In the class and video they take the disc capilar off and wire it to the frame leaving the brake hose attached. The rest of the system was attached to the steering knuckle in the video. Is it ok to simply leave the drum system (after removing the drum, bearing/hub assembly) on the knuckle? If not, I assume I need to remove the front anchor pin and the two bolts that attach the tie rod linkage to the back of the brake.

    Thanks,

    Dick

    Dick----

You can leave the components you described of the front brake assemblies in place. The only problem with doing so is the risk of damaging them in the spring replacement process. If you're careful, this should not be a problem.

        Richard-----

Just be VERY careful that you don't damage the backing plates in the process. This sort of thing falls into the category of things that can't happen or won't be allowed to happen, but DO happen. It's a syndrome; makes some folks paranoid.

Joe, One spring out with no problem...

I used a loaner coil spring compressor from Advance Auto parts. Took my time and everything went smoothly. Thanks again for your input.
