    C2 turn signal problem

    Members,
I have a question regarding a right turn signal problem on my '65. The rear turn signal does not function. Front signal on the right side works fine. Test light reveals that there is no voltage at the rear signal when being operated.

The '65 shop manual wiring diagram shows the turn rear wiring going into what the manual calls a BODY CONN. Sounds like a good place to look for a bad connection.

Question: Where is this BODY CONN. located? I followed the wires forward but once they go into the body (near the left-rear fender), I'm lost.

All help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Does the right brake light work? If it does, the problem is likely in the t/s switch. If it doesn't work, then you need to check for voltage at the socket and work back until you find it.

      Ed,
Thank you for your response. I just tried what you suggested. The right brake light does NOT work. As I stated in my original question, there is no voltage at the socket.

Following the wiring diagram in the shop manual is how I got on the trail of the BODY CONN. I do not know where the connector is located. I suspect that there is a bad connection there or somewhere else where wires plug together.

      Regards,
      Gene

The connector is under the LH kick panel. It is possible, but unusual for this conector to be bad. I would check further up at the turn signal itself. That connector is on the column.

          Wayne,
Thank you for your information. Regarding the connector that is on the steering column; where along the steering column is it located?

          Thanks,
          Gene

            Gene -

Locate where the T/Sig harness exits the column tube, and follow it to the gang connector to the instrument panel harness; back-probe those terminals in both sides of the connector with your test light to check for voltage in the 20-ga. dark green wire (that feeds the right rear turn signal/stop light filament). If that checks OK, do the same check at the body harness connector behind the driver's side kick panel.

              John,
Thank you for your response and your suggestion. I will perform the test tomorrow.

                John,
I checked the turn signal per your instructions. Here are my findings. These tests were made at the base of the steering column. I did not go to the kick panel connector.

When I probe the wire that feeds the left TS, I get a flashing test lignt and I can hear the flasher clicking. When I probe the wire that feeds the right TS, I get a steady on test light and do not hear the flasher clicking. The steady on light is not as bright as the flashing light on the left TS.

                What do you think?

                Thanks,
                Gene
