I have two different heads on my car. 1) a "391" with a too early date (Oct 66) and 2)an "840" head with a May 23,67 date. I have been told the car should have 2 of the properly dated "391" heads. The block has a casting date of April 27,67 and pad date of May 25,67. The serial number of the car is #...20909 built June 14,1967. What cylinder heads do you think WERE ORIGINALLY ON THE CAR?? I plan end up with two proper heads before it's too late to do so. Thank you in advance for your input and advice.

Re: C2- 67 L71 435 Cylinder Heads???
On a May engine it is possible to have early 840 heads. They are identifiable by not having the boss drilled and tapped for the temp sensor hole common on the '68 MY 840 heads.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: C2- 67 L71 435 Cylinder Heads???
Bill....given the engine pad date of May 25,1967 and the one "840" head that is dated 23-May-67. Do you think that the one head may be an original or are the dates too close?? I really would like to only buy one if it's correct to have "840" heads. I'm sure I can sell the "391". Thanks for your help.- Top

Re: C2- 67 L71 435 Cylinder Heads???
Glenn,
There are examples of engines cast and assembled the same day, so it isn't outside the realm of possibility. Regarding those, I don't know if they are abhorations or not. Before you sell one or the other, look for similarly dated "opposites". Depending on what you find, you will be better able to decide what would be more appropriate for your car. Good luck.- Top

Re: C2- 67 L71 435 Cylinder Heads???
Thae head could be correct if it has the distinguishing charcteristic I described. Only the heads used in the '67 MY did not have the boss drilled and tapped.Bill Clupper #618- Top
