    75 VETTE BUMPERS

    Hi:

I have been looking at a 75 Convertible to purchase. The car was painted and done very nice. However, the Front and Rear bumbers were replaced and do not line up very well (GAPS). If I brought it to a body shop could that be fixed or is the nature of the beast on these style of bumpers.

Steve The material the bumpers are made of and how much time was spent installing and fiting them controls the fit and would affect judging if that is in your plan. To fix them now would not be easy if one wants a perfect fit . I will say the original fit was not perfect and you should look at original 75's to see how they looked from the factory if that matters to you. Lyle

The front and rear bumpers on 1975 Corvettes were made of urethane and deteriorated with age. Replacements usually are flex-fiberglass or fiberglass. If properly installed they can look very nice but are not correct from a judging standpoint.

Front bumpers of urethane are available from the original molds. Rear bumpers of urethane are available from the original mold but do not have the indentations for the letters since they were removed for the 1976 model change.
I believe Eckler's and perhaps some others offer these parts as well as the other materials.

Most likely, the car you are looking at are fiberglass and you can readily tell by the rigidity of the material.

        Don:

This car has the wrong emblem on the back, I think form 76". Can I convert it back to the correct 75 Lettering???

The early '76 models had a small one piece nameplate that was placed in an indent. later in the model year, the indent was removed and a larger nameplate was mounted on the surface. If yours is the later design you may be able to remove the one piece name plate, fill the mounting holes and install the correct individual Corvette letters on the surface without the indents. It would not be totally correct but as close as you can get since the indent design is no longer available.
