    powerglide tail shaft

Does anyone know where I can purchase ( how much $$$$$) the tail shaft (with the three embossed holes) to mount the automatic shfter.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike # 35882

I don't know where to get one; you're going to need to find a Powerglide specialist. There is a fellow that advertises in the Driveline classified adds for Powerglide parts, especially rebuilt bands. As I recall, he is located in Massachusetts (maybe the town of Needham).

The extension housing (which, I believe is the part you're after) for 1957 Corvettes was GM #3727024. However, I don't know if this number appears on the part or if another and different casting number was used. This was a Corvette-only piece. However, it was used in later SERVICE for 1955-57 Chevrolet passenger cars. I think the only difference is the 3 holes for the shifter mount so for passenger car SERVICE, the holes were unused. PRODUCTION passenger car extension housings may or may not have the bosses but without the drilling and tapping. If so, you can add these using your shifter bracket as a template.

In general, I think that this is going to be a hard piece to find and will likely be expensive if you do find it.

These are really hard to find. I paid $400 for mine, provided that I took the rest of the cast iron PG with it.

Chicage Corvette has them listed in their catalog for $240 +$75 core charge. From my experience with them, if it is in their catalog, there is about a 5% chance that they will actually have the part. I think that they are just brazing the Corvette mounting bosses to the side of a car tail shaft housing. While it is not correct, it will work to hold the shifter in place.

      good luck
