    Lettering Template

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a 'template' to drill the holes for the letters C O R V E T T E on the rear of a 68 Corvette between the taillights over the license plate? Mine were filled in by previous owner and I purchased letters from GM but need a way to drill holes so letters are straight and evenly spaced. No template was included with the letters. Thanks in advance. Kurt Bunting

    Kurt,

I don't know of any templates available retail. You may try to make a template by visiting a local Corvette scrap yard. (Do you have a friend with a 68-73 who doesn't mind removing his/her letters?) My car is in storage or I'd do it for you. If you still need one by the next weekend, I'd be happy to help out.

        Do this, Kurt..........

look at the valance panel from underneath the car. You will have to drop down the tire carrier, but you should see the original holes from underneath the car. Here's the trick part, get a real small drill bit, 1/32" to use as a pilot hole. Then use the correct drill bit and enlarge the holes from the outside, drilling in.

If the previous owner sanded the backside, drop me an email w/your address and I'll send you a template, but try what I suggested first.

            Kurt----

No template was ever available from General Motors; original rear panels and GM service replacement panels were pre-drilled for the letter mount holes.
