I just searched for and found this recent thread. I posted earlier tonight, I can not get my newly rebuilt horns to "honk" Can you tell me how to get a rough adjustment so as to "make da sucka honk"? Or should I be checking elsewhere before drilling out my brand new rivets?
(1) Do the horns honk when they're out of the car, on the bench, using a fully charged battery as the power source?
(2) If not, return them to your restoration agent for warranty service.
(3) If so, you've got electrical 'funnies' to track down and kill in your vehicle.... Is the horn relay firing properly? See the shop manual or chassis service manual for trouble shooting. Are the horns properly grounded? This is a common problem on restorations especially if the radiator support/frame was HEAVILY repainted or thick powder coating was used....
Thank you for responding. No they don't work on the bench either. I rebuilt them using a kit from LIC. It doesn't look like a complicated piece, but I have overlooked something. The coils tested good, I filed the points and asembled the units. I was hoping for some idea of a a place to start with an adjustment. Should they just work regardless of adjustment, and the adjustment is just for tone?
