I have a lead on a `68 Corvette Wagon and would like to know where I can find some info on this car. It needs a mild restoration as it has been sitting for quite some time. Has a 327/auto, and has the panel wagon type rear. Presently does not run (did when put away) and has no interior other than dash/column/console. Any ideas where I can get info on this, or what it is or would be worth? Thanks.

Re: Info on Vette Station Wagons??
I believe Eckler's made kits for this conversion. But then there were others as well, I think, who may be out of business.
As to present value of such a car: not much. There was a '71 for sale in Denver recently, supposedly a nice driver (I resisted the temptation to look). The owner was asking $6995. It was in the ads for at least three weeks, though I did not see it today. Future value? Probably not much, unless they catch on with street rodders (seems unlikely). It will never be worth anything to a purist except for parts. This is definitely not an "economically restorable" car, meaning you are sure to have more in it than it is worth when you are done. That is true of most cars, but especially true of an oddball conversion that needs a lot of work. If you buy it in the condition described, be sure to get it nearly free ;^).
I wouldn't touch such a conversion unless: It was already in the shape I wanted, was priced well below correct drivers of that year, and was something I thought would be a kick to drive and/or show. Hey, the '70's are now the subject of nostalgia, God help us all.

PS I actually called the guy who had the '71 to find out if there was a back seat. Since there wasn't, I was narrowly saved from the bug which has apparently bitten you.- Top

Re: Info on Vette Station Wagons??
This is a custom conversion, and as others have pointed out, Ecklers made the top, and any competent Vette repair facility made the transformation. We even had a guy in our club who did it to promote his resto shop, as did Ecklers. They toured the car to a number of meets and then put it on display at their facility in Florida. If done right, the conversion looked alright, something different, but to a purist, just a pile of cow flopps.- Top
