    C2 Headlight Motor Mounting

I am having problems installing the headlight motors. When the motor is mounted on the shaft and the motor bracket is aligned with the screw in stud the metal bracket from the header bar will not meet the motor as it should. There was a post about this a few months back but I can't seem to find it. I know what the man was talking about now and this is a pain. Can some provide dimensions or a photo of the correct steel bracket that goes from the header bar to the motor case? I am guessing I may have the wrong parts.

    Thank you,

    George

    George,
If the motor is correctly positioned, the clip which helps hold the motor will fit on the stud. If everything seems OK, let me know and I'll get you dimensions from my '66 tomorrow.

      Ronnie,

Thank you for your response. Here is my problem; when I position the motor so the bracket from the header bar lays flush against the motor housing the stud from the bearing housing will not align with the slot in the motor housing assembly. Conversely, if I put the stud in the bearing bracket and slide the motor on, the bracket from the header bar will not lay flush against the motor. The steel bracket from the header bar has only one bend in it. If that is the correct shape then I suspect my problem is in the end plates where the bearing housings mount. If the steel brackets shoud have two bends in them then I think they would align with the flat side of the motor case. I know there has been some previous body work done, and the screw in studs that accept the little spring clips were missing when I got the car. So I am trying to isolate where the problem is.

      Thank you,

      George

The brackets are approx. 4 1/2 x 1 1/8 with one bend at the header bar end. The hole for the motor is centered and the hole at the header bar is C shaped (open at the edge) for the rubber grommet.

          George,
I think what you have to do is to keep rotating rhe star wheel until you can assemble the motor onto the stud and at the same time the rtaining bracket (strap). The headlamp bucket may or may not be in alignment when done. If this is the case, then when done, open or close the buckets from the dash switch. I went through thids when I had my motors rebuilt. I also rebuilt the pivot assemblies at that time.
