Weight of 327 block ?

Going to pick up a 327 Block.
Can some one tell me how much the block weighs.

It is just the block. No heads, no intake manifold,
no pistons.

It is a short block complete with oil pan and balancer

How many people would it take to lift the block
or is that out of the question and I should rent
an engine hoist?

Trying to figure out the best way to load
and transport the block.

I'm not sure of the exact weight, but 2 could lift it with some difficulty onto a pick-up bed. If the seller has an engine hoist - use it. If not, try to get at least three people.

In your post, you mention that it is "just a block" and excludes, among other things, pistons. Then, you say that it is a short block which includes pan and balancer. When the term "just a block" is used, that infers that it is a BARE block. A bare block is just that----only the machined block casting with main bearing caps; NOTHING ELSE.

A "short block" or "partial engine" is, generally, considered to be a block which includes all internal block components, but, usually, excluding oil pan and balancer. Pistons are ALWAYS included as part of a short block assembly.

Anyway, a BARE small block of PRODUCTION configuration weighs about 185 pounds. To that, you'll need to add the weight of whatever other components that this block contains.
