    Front Coil Spring Installation

I tried the archives but must not be holding my mouth right. I can't pull up what I need.

Anyway, I'll pose the question here.

When I got my 68, the front end was already apart down to the bare frame.

I will soon be re-installing the front coils and am concerned about their proper placemment into the towers.

There is a small hole just before a raised lip at the top of the tower. Does the end of the spring need to be visible in this hole from a top view to be properly aligned?

    Thanks for your help,

    Re: Front Coil Spring Installation

Chuck, If you look in the AIM I think you'll find that the end of the spring needs to be within .375" of the stop, which is just in front of the hole. If you don't have the AIM you should get one; it's very useful. I'll check mine tonight for the dimension but you'll probably get the right answer from someone here today. A great resource.

      Re: Actually

      The A.I.M. states .38 +/- .12 from the stop.

My question is the hole in the top of the tower of any significance or is it just there? It's not stated in the A.I.M. but I'm assuming (yeah bad word)the hole must be a visual gauge right?

or maybe a drain hole. Can't remember if it's a a low point on the A arm but the visual thing sounds like a safe(?) assumption.

          Re: Actually

From instructor at the Bloomington class this June, the "hole" is a window, you should see the end of the spring coil in the window.
