This is a follow-on from the earlier thread. I just noticed that the seller of th '66 cancelled the auction and the single bid that was received has been retracted. I wonder if this was a result of the conversations here.

Re: "Clear Title" car on ebay is gone
I sent the seller a question regarding the VIN and title. He responded that "we are selling the car for a customer. the info is what we were told and what we inspected. i'm pulling the ad until we can figure out what is going on. "- Top

This car could have been floating around for years with this bogus VIN.- Top

Re: "Clear Title" car on ebay is gone
The ad for this car is gone because I questioned the seller on the VIN. I stated the corvette VIN# started with 19467 or 19437 depending on coupe or conv. and that he was mis-representing this VIN as an actual corvette VIN when it clearly isn't.
He replied to me that he was selling it for someone else and was pulling the ad until he could find out what the story was. We all know what the story is. Gary- Top

I think one of the really important outcomes is because of Wayne Midkiff's alert and the responders comments and actions some poor uneducated stiff like myself avoided being totally screwed if that sale went through. Sorry for the long sentence. David- Top

Could be the beginning of a process to return the car to it's rightful owner ...- Top

to be fair...
Yesterday I posted that I asked the seller about the tags and received no response. Today he responded, saying they were originally selling it for someone, and that they "were pulling the ad until they figure out what's going on."

Re: "Clear Title" car on ebay is gone
I second that opinion. Thanks Wayne Midkiff for saving someone a big headache. Also I might be naive but why would a dealer knowingly put a bogus vin plate on display for the whole ebay community to see. I think if the dealer was trying to pull a fast one he would not have included the vin data.
Maybe the dealer was an inadvertant "fence". Hope John H keeps us posted

Re: "Clear Title" car on ebay is gone
I e-mailed and told the bidder what was up, he hadn't noticed bad VIN. When I e-mailed seller I was told car was registered in Florida. I asked as what? A Chevette? Got the same reply, was checking into it and would get back to me. Probably will need a few pen pals!!- Top
