vapor system for a 1972 vette

Two posts in a row. Trying to get some of the hard stuff out of the way.
I am also looking for the vapor system for my 454. I need the canister and all the hoses that run between the head covers, distributor, and carburetor. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dr. Rebuild can fix you up with both the hose kits as well as a Delco replacement charcoal cannister.

Thank you very much. I contacted them today. The duel snorkle air filter is unique to the vette. Expencive too, $349. I purchased the whole vapor system for the car.

Here is my next question. They said the vapor system is a little different then some of the other passenger cars of that time. They have everything even the canister. BUT they do not have the canister bottome. Is there a bottom to the vapor cannister or is the bottom of the filter exposed? If there is a bottom do you have any suggestion on a solution. Dr. Rebuild said they haven't had the bottom of this cannister for as long as they could rememver.

Yes, I never said that the reproduction air cleaner assembly would be inexpensive. The "dual snorkels" are among the most expensive of the reproduction air cleaners. Also, as I mentioned, this is a Corvette-only piece, so you can't get one off of another car.

Unfortunately, the EEC cannister drain cap (bottom), GM #7028046, has been discontinued for quite a few years. I don't think it's reproduced, either. So, you're going to have to find a used one. Since this is a plastic part subject to deterioration, that will make this search even more difficult. However, this was NOT a Corvette-only piece. It was also used on most 72-74 Chevrolet passenger cars, Chevelles, and Novas.

In addition, it is VERY hard to see the bottom funnel-like drain cap on the car when installed. You can go without until you find one.

If you haven't yet ordered the dual snorkel air cleaner, I'd check out Carlisle in a few weeks. A visit to Bloomington 3 years ago showed several used examples of the base for about $100 (although I only paid $50 for mine). I suspect the price may be slightly higher now, but will be cheaper than a reproduction. This is true even if you strip off the bad paint from an original and repaint it or have it repainted for you.

Reproduction chrome air cleaner covers are also slightly different than originals in the area of the stud through-hole.
