I don't know much about these. However, as far as I can tell, both 53-55 and 56-62 used 1.0" rear brake cylinders. Given this fact and the fact that the rear backing plates for 53-55 were different than for 56-62, I would expect that there is some difference between the 53-55 and 56-62 wheel cylinders which makes interchange more than a "bolt-on", if not impossible. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: On a 55,
Jeff and Joe: Because the rear wheel cyl's on a 49-50 chev pass car have the same cast # as the 61 Big brake (RPO) rear whel cyls (even tho the two have differences in the size of the brake line fittings), i'd suspect that the rear wheel cyls of a 53-55 would "bolt on" any c-1 backing plate. I became aware of the identical part #s and diffrences in brake line fitings after buying a purported NOS rear wheel cyl for my 61 rpo and when attempting to install the brake lines, discovered the "NOS" cyl was drilled and tapped for the next larger size brake line fitting.mike- Top
