Well I got my first "surprise" expense yesterday in restoring my '65 396 Roadster. The plater called and wanted me to come down so he could show me two rust pockets concealed under the chrome in the rear bumpers. There is one on each bumper. The metal in the two small spots was so thin a screwdriver made a nice window in one. According to him, I'm better off trying to replace these than fix them. I want to tap the trusted experts on this board for their opinions. Is it better to find used originals at someplace like Carlisle and replate them or are the GM Restoration Parts or the like as good and maybe a less expensive alternative? I'm restoring the car to have it Flight judged so I need accuracy.
As always, I greatly appreciate your comments or suggestions.
