    1971 brake booster parts

I am looking for a seal that is located on the rod that runs between the brake booster and master cylinder. The seal slides down the rod and would be positioned inside the brake booster when assembled. The rod that I am referencing has a tip that is threaded and screws into the rod. Anyne know a supplier?

    Shane----

The seal of which you speak, GM #3910048, was discontinued quite some time ago and is difficult to locate. It is a special seal with a circular metal plate surrounded by a rubber seal. However, all may not be lost. This was a Bendix-supplied part as was the original brake booster. The Bendix part number for the seal was 2501325. If you can find an auto parts store that carries the Bendix line of brake service parts, they MAY be able to get this item, assuming that Bendix still makes it.

Let us all know what you find, as others may be interested.

      Joe...Booster part question

JOE....fOR 71/72, are the booster inner parts only particular to Vettes. What I'm saying is; Would the parts for an Impala be the same part as used in the Vette booster? Was the booster of this style only used on the Vette.
      Thx in advance Bruce

        Re: Joe...Booster part question

        Bruce----

The 1968-76 Corvette boosters were, basically, all the same and were of Bendix manufacture. The particular booster used for Corvettes was a Corvette-only item. Most late 60s and early 70s Chevrolet passenger cars used Delco-Moraine power brake boosters. Of course, there are no parts interchangeable among these and Benix units. There were a few late 60s-early 70s Chevrolet passenger cars which did use Bendix power brake boosters. These included, but are not necessarily limited to, many 67-70 full size passenger cars with drum brakes and some 73-74 full size passenger cars with HD brakes. The latter Bendix boosters were different than the Corvette boosters. No major internal or external parts interchange, but there may be some small parts that are common to all.

          Re: 1971 brake booster parts

          Joe,

So far I've not been able to find the seal. Local parts stores cannot get the seal from Bendix. I've also contacted a few brake booster rebuilders. So far none have returned my call saying they have the part, but they will sell me a rebuilt brake booster! If they are rebuilding boosters there must be a supplier somewhere. Dan with Just Corvettes in Missouri is currently trying to locate one. I may have to try a used seal that is in good condition. Dan felt that he may have one. I have contacted Dan several times in the last few months for parts and have always been pleased with the service and used parts. Hopefully Dan can help me again.

If you're talking about the seal that is external to the booster shell, I don't think that this seal is part of a rebuilt booster assembly. It's an "in-betweensie" part that doesn't come with either the booster or the master cylinder.

Re: Joe 1971 brake booster parts

              Joe,

Thats the one I am talking about. In several photos from corvette parts suppliers I've noticed that the photos show the rod extending from the front of the booster. I assumed that a new seal would come with it. Of course you know what they say about assuming. I've never had to buy a new or rebuilt booster. Thanks for the info!

I can tell you for absolute certain that this seal is not supplied with a NEW booster. I have several NOS examples of the 68-76 booster [none for sale] and none have this seal supplied with them.
