    212CW AIR CLEANER ELEMENT

I have been looking for about a year now....no luck. Does anyone have a EMBOSSED AC 212cw ail cleaner element. I need one for my 1966 that has already Benchmarked. I thought it would be nice to have one for Bowtie judging. Anybody? maybe someone will see one at a swap meet? Thanks, John

    John,

It is likely not necessary for Bowtie.

Why? The judges say to themselves when they judge your car for Bowtie "Did the car come with this air filter?" If you have a 60,000 mile car with a new filter, the answer is "no" and you get no credit for it anyway. Even with a crusty old filter, did someone REALLY leave it there for that long?

It's the reason that my 60,000 mile 72 will show up with BFG Radial TA's next year, not my original 10,000 mile dated judging tires.

      Jon-----

I saw a 69-era AC212CW at Bloomington several years ago. The asking price was either $1,000 or $2,000, I don't recall, at the moment. The same guy may be at Carlisle and might not have sold it yet. So, if you're there, keep your eyes open.

Patrick You may want to reconsider what tires you have on your Bowtie canidate as you are representing your corvette as an orginal. Even though the tires did not come with the car or show the correct wear. I have been their and was told to declare the tires and have them on the car for the correct look. When coming back for the fifth star I drove my 73 and had someone bring my firestone 500's as my team leader requsted me to do. Pro Team has one at Carlisle a couple of years ago. The price was "make offer" Do not know if they still have it, but I'm sure they will have their stuff at Carlisle.

Patrick, since you are driving your car to Canada next summer the radials seem the way to go, but I think most judges and team leaders like to see the original type tires even if not original to the car. Do not forget there is a yes or no vote process to the judging that has nothing to do with the line item score sheets. The vote is subjective and answers questions like "is this car a good learning subject that should be preserved in its present state?" (my paraphrase, it is something like that). Your original tires would likely get a fail on the score sheet, but they might help on the subjective part. It is about a certain "look" they like to see. Without two yes votes on the subjective portion, the score sheet is moot.

The above is just my opinion based on my limited experience of one Four Star car. I did ask a lot of questions for a few years prior to judging at Hershey, however.

            Gutsy move!!!!!!

It takes a brave man to actually drive a car on Firestone 500 radials! Had one delaminate and let go on me driving from Chicago to Detroit. Ripped out the wheel well on my T-Bird and rolled the car on the freeway at 80 MPH! I was lucky to walk away alive.... If the tire incident hadn't happened, I would have been in the parking lot of the Macus Red Fox restaurant in Birmingham EXACTLY at the time Jimmy Hoffa was abucted!

Jack I did the Founders that year also but if you look real close at the post I had a friend bring the 500's to Collinsville. No driving on junk tires for me. Lyle

                    Gary,

I talked with the Judges this year (Bowtie ones) about this exact fact. They said it exactly as I reported it above - if the car hadn't made it 60,000 miles with THOSE EXACT tires, then it didn't matter. And, I agree. I could take my 1972 blackwalls along, but why? "Hi guys, these were removed early in the car's life but I've reinstalled them." As Dave Strickland if this works. It doesn't.

So, odds are that unless I trailer the car, it will have its BFGs on it.
