    c2 back up lights

My restored 65 327 roadster has always had the reverse light lenses in
place, but I discovered recently that they do not function when shifted into
reverse(this vehicle is a 4 speed ). In checking the assembly manual, I see
no sign of the switch for reverse lights mentioned. I have checked the bulbs
and they are fine. How does one determine if the vehicle is so wired, and
then how is this problem to be investigated? Seems I read that the backup lights were not standard until mid 1965. Thanks.

The switch for the backup lights mounts on a bracket attached to the transmission side cover. Two wires run from the switch up tp a 2 way connection Behind and inboard of the valve cover on the drivers side in the engine compartment. The switch is activated by a lever connecting the lever on the switch to the reverse arm on the trans.

Did your car leave the factory with back-up lights ??? An indicator clue would be the presence or absence of a "day-night" mirror. The two items were sold as a package. So if you have one of the two then you should also have the 2nd.

If you do need a switch, make sure you also get the small heat shield for it. The switch mounts to the side of the transmission in a location that is very close to the exhaust pipe and needs the heat shield to keep the protective coating on the switch from melting.

          John -

You'll find the illustrations and part numbers for all the backup lamp components in the back of your '65 Assembly Manual; Section Z01, Sheet 1 and 2.
