In my 64, the radiator is #3155316 and is stamped either 68L or 88L. I know it is the wrong one. But I plan on installing A/C. Would this radiator work with a flex fan? Would I need to put an electric fan in? Suggestions? What about the battery? I want to use a gel? How many amps for the A/C?

Re: 64 coupe radiator
That IS a correct radiator. It's not the original, but a service replacement. You should check the '64 AIM on C60 cooling changes. The radiator was the same "316", but I believe the fan may have been a seven blade affair that bolted to the same thermomodulated hub. A/C might be okay with the standard five blade fan, depending on your conditions, but if not, I would recommend an original seven blade fan rather than messing with electric fans and flex fans. The factory A/C system was well engineered, so duplicating its configuration takes advantage of that engineering. If you think you're a better cooling system engineer, you can reengineer it as you see fit.

Re: 64 coupe radiator
Indeed, as Duke says, you've got neat service spare aluminum radiator and that was the same unit for A/C as well as non-A/C cars. When A/C was added in '64, the fan changed from a 5-blade to a larger (18-inch) 7-blade fan (5853945) which is in reproduction.
As far as A/C goes for the electrical system, the same (rather low capacity) battery was used for both A/C and non-A/C cars. It's not the battery that makes a difference, it's the alternator's charging profile (rated output) that counts (keep the battery up under max electrical load). Any alternator from the period can be 'stuffed' with higher output 'guts' (rotor and stator windings) to deliver more 'juice'....- Top
