    James----

Finding a suitable replacement THM 400 for your car should not be difficult at all. Finding a case with correct casting "numbers and dates" will add some complexity to your search, but you should still be able to come up with one. There were an awful lot of THM 400s manufactured in 1973.

Joe's advice is, as usual, solid and on target. All things are possible, it's a question of time/money. The 'game' is how much are you willing to do vs. throw 3rd party profit $ at the project and how big a hurry are you in....

You'd be surprised what you can find at scrap yards once you've gotten the books, know how the 'numbers' work, and are willing to back off on 'original' vs. 'numbers matching' constraints. My advice is read, study, learn and enjoy the 'hunt' if you're a hands on guy. On the other hand, NCRS doesn't really judge the power train components as closely as, say, NCCB/Bloomington AND, for a driver, a 700R4 is a pretty nice chunk of transmission....
