C2 -1964 Battery Discharge problem fixed

Thought I would share with the membership a problem I fixed this weekend that was causing me a lot of grief during the post frame off debug run-in process...My battery kept dying overnight, so I wrote it off to a bad battery, it was actually 5 years old so what the heck, put a new battery from Tom Coblain, It was a real nice piece and I thought I would check for current draw afer assembling it, (I was preparing to do the...take one fuse out at a time routine) so I took my digital meter, put it in line with the positive cable and the battery, knowing not to turn anything on greater than 10 amps...I saw .3 amps showing on the meter, with the doors open the 3 lamps drew another amp so I knew it was something like a small light bulb current draw...for some reason I immediately thought of the glove box light. I pushed the button on the glove box switch and it zeroed the meter... a small adjustment to the catch latch of the glove box...and it was fixed. 100 electrical parts/system diassembled and reassembled, and the electrical system fails due to a latch mechanism...go figure. Beware of the glove box light?

    Dino,
Congratulations on tracking down the problem. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I'll check the glove box light when I get to this point in the restoration.

    Regards,
    Gene

Yes, the glove box light can be a pesky thing. I have had a few problems with the one on my '64 as well, including the adjustment of the latch. Glad you found it!

        Dino,

I had a dead battery because of the glove box light also. The light wasn't on when the door was shut but the socket setup is kind of a poor design in my opinion and there was contact where the shouldn't have been.

Do you REALLY know the light goes off in your refrigerator when you close the door?
