    91' engine stalls then quits

I have a 91' convertible with the L-98 engine. On may way back from the 50th event in Nashville, the car quit on me. It acted like I had ran out of gas (gas gauge showed it had 1/2 tank). But it then re-stared and I made it another couple of miles down the road until it did it again. I then had it towed home. My mechanic checked the car over and said it looked like I had a bad fuel pump. So I replaced the fuel pump. Then 2 weeks later coming back from another show the engine died again. I tooked the car back to my mechanic and he did some more work. Replaced the computer chip and a dioded in the distributor. I took the car home and just before getting back to my house the car died again. As you can tell I am getting frustrated with this car. My mechanic can not figure it out. I had another 91' before this one and had to have new fuel injectors put in it so I asked my mechanic to check them and he said they were fine. I am looking for help on this. If anyone has experienced this problem before and has a solution, I would apreciate it.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: 91' engine stalls then quits

I had a intermittent problem on my '94 OLDS. It would hesitate and then die. Since there was not a cheap code scanner available for the OBDI cars I took it to a dealer. The diagnostic code finally showed up for the shop as faulty cam and crankshaft position sensors, which they replaced without correcting the problem. They then replaced the computer itself. Their story was that the bad sensors took out the computer. I think it was more likely that the computer failed and was not reading the sensors. The service manual troubleshooting guide calls for replacement of the sensors before replacing the computer. The point being, even with the proper error codes, the diagnostics do not specify whether the sensor is bad or the computer is bad. It just knows the circuit is bad. I would take it to the dealer before you spend a fortune replacing sensors that may not fix the problem.

Since your mechanic has not fixed the problem, you could contact www.gordonkillebrew.com and see if he might be able to help you with your unsolved problem. Have you changed your fuel filter?
