    C2-Radio antenna

The saga continues getting the car ready for flight judging...the darn radio wont work..I know I bench tested to make sure this very thing didn't happen, so I started to debug the thing..and what I have found is that when plugging in the old antenna the radio sounds fine...my new antenna just is not working...it is installed properly with the all the grommets, ground plane, and ground strap...when I measured the resistance between the center post and sleeve on the good antenna it showed an open circuit, when I measured the one in the car not working there is some resistance...has anyone come across this before...do I just have a bad NOS antenna? I was trying to remember is there any place that the antenna wire travels where it can be pinched by a screw which would short it out? I notice when I touch the old antenna (the one that works) with my hand the signal gets very very strong.

I would start by looking at the connection at the new antenna for any signs of corrosion. You mentioned NOS if so, it is 30+ years old and been esposed to the atmosphere. The signal strength of an antenna increasing when you touch it out of the car is normal, so it sounds like you are looking in the right place. Find your high resistance and eliminate that then see where you are. You did not mention, is this a '63-4 or a '67. or what?
