    tracing brake caliper numbers.

Is there a way to trace the caliper numbers to find out if they are original? I was looking at mine today for the first time, I have a 72 M4o, and the calipers are AC Delco and they have the numbers stamped on the outside edge. I wanted to see if there is a way to track these to see if they are original or not. Curiousity thing.

    Thank you,
    Brandon

    Brandon,
I think there is a date code stamped into the calipers although I have not made the effort yet to see if my "originals" have them. I do have the original calipers to my '70 in a box that were removed and saved by a previous owner. Perhaps someone else who has observed these dates will elaborate on size and location. I suspect they are on a machined surface.

      Brandon-----

I'm out of town at the moment and just "peeking in". However, I can tell you this: there is NO way to determine if the calipers are original to the car. However, there IS a way to you MAY be able to tell if they are NOT original to the car.

For your 72, the caliper casting numbers should all begin with "545". If they begin with "546" 0r "547", then they are NOT original to the car. If they begin with "545", they MAY be original to the car. There is no date code which includes a year, if it's a date code, at all. Without a year, any "date code" is virtually meaningless.

Thanks for clearing that up, Joe. Perhaps I will see you in Carlisle this weekend.
