    clear or not

On my old 57 I used lacquer.I am now in the middle of a body off of my 1965 vert.. What are your suggestions for paint if you were going for a Top Flight? I have shot both lacquer and base/clear on my cars before. Urethane is as easy as lacquer to use, and superior in durability. Are you using a single stage to keep away from the clearcoat issues(doorjambs, etc.)? Any advice is appreciated!

    Re: clear or not

Single stage can be used to simulate laquer, HOWEVER, the extra labor involved to duplicate the laquer look is quite extensive. Hood ledges, door jambs, etc, have to be painted separately with a flatner added, and then rubbed with coarse rubbling compound to dull and eliminate orange peel. It probable takes another week of labor to duplicate laquer. Worth the time, but you have to be very careful if you plan to have the car judged. Can be done, but tough
