    C-3 Big Block Intake Manifolds

For all of you Big Block experts out there, isnt the 69 427/390 Aluminum Intake Manifold interchangeable on other oval port C-3 Big Blocks? Doen't it use a Rochester Quadrajet? Anyone know the part number on this intake?

Mike, the short answer to your question is yes, it will work and yes, it is a Q-jet manifold.. The Casting number is 3919849 and it is extremely rare.

        Bill----

It's a very minor point, but I believe that the 3919849 manifold was the 1968 Corvette 427/390 manifold. Later in 1968 this changed to 3937793. For all 1969 427/390 engines I belive casting number is 3947801. Although the casting numbers were different, all 3 of these manifolds are basically the same as to configuration with only very minor differences.

To add a little more, all of these manifolds were Corvette-only and are the only oval port, aluminum manifolds of spread-bore(Q-Jet)configuration that will fit under a stock 68-72 Corvette big block hood. For 1970-71 LS-5 production, the manifold was changed to a cast iron design, casting number 3955287. This manifold was not unique to Corvettes, however, and was used on many other car lines.

Joe, you were right. i did some checking over the weekend and the 69 427/390 uses the 3947801 intake. This unit is interchangeable on 1970-1972 applications. Thanks for the help.

                Mike---

Yes, the 3947801 manifold will work on 1970-72 oval port LS-5 engines. However, bear in mind that the choke thermostat for 1970-72 carburetors was different than the 68-69 style. Consequently, if you use a 68 or 69 big block aluminum manifold with a 70-72 carburetor, you will need to adapt the choke mechanism. You cannot use a 70-72 style choke thermostat on a 68-69 manifold.
