Weight of '63 to '79 differential

Does anyone have a differential sitting close to a scale? I need an actual weight or a shipping weight. The one I'm looking at is without the cover but if you have it with the cover, that is fine.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Mike --- Depending on the packing material, the cardboard box for the diff (w/side yokes, w/o cover bolts) could weigh 86 lbs, and measure 21.5" x 21.5" x 12". The cover (w/bolts) in a cardboard box, w/minimum packing) could weigh 20 lbs, and measure 10.5" x 12" x 12.5".

      Thanks!

      Thaks, Wayne,

That was great, and all the measurements, too. I ended up not getting it, but it is nice to know my sense of weight wasn't so bad. I thought they were about 100 pounds complete, but the guy who had it was sure it was under 70. His error would have almost tripled my shipping expenses, so it all works out for the best.

      Thanks again,
      Mike

Mike, here's a tip for future shipping of any heavy package like that: Use Fedex Ground. They are beating the everlivin' pants off the competition. They will beat UPS by as much as 30 percent on that heavy stuff, and that's real money. Surprisingly enough, UPS is barely more competitive than USPS for heavy packages.

          Re: Thanks! - Cheap shipping

I've been doing that, Chuck. The problem is that Fedex Home Ground Delivery (the cheapest) stops at 70 lbs. The FedEx Ground is still cheaper than UPS, but not nearly as cheap as FHGD.

If you have been using the web site and checking residential delivery, you have probably been using the FHGD rates.

The real pain is shipping large flat, lighweight items. Hoods make it under the limits with Greyhound and go around $40-$50. They are too big for UPS and FedEx, although FedEx will deliver them commercially for body shops and parts stores. (someone arranged a sweet contract.)
