    1972 Owner's manual

I am hoping someone can furnish information on my 72 Owner's Manual. I have the original manual, as furnished by the PO. I also have one I bought a little over two years ago. Both are "Part no. 6263135 ST 310-72 and First Edition Sept. 1971". In addition, both have the remaining half of the Corvette News coupon. One is 5/16" taller than the other but the same length. I am confused here. Any help? I also have a reproduction copy ordered from our friends at the NCRS store and it, of course, is quite different.

The two original 1971 first editions have the same font, color, style, etc. There is NO visible difference between the two, with the exception of the above stated dimension.

Gary, I have both the original and a reproduction for my '72. I don't know that I can help you with the 1st Edition manuals, but for comparison my car was built May 10,1972 and came with a 2nd Edition, January 1972 manual. The part# is 328789 ST 310-72. It measures 8" x 5-1/8". The reproduction has the same part#, but no mention of an edition...and of course, it has no insert for Corvette News nor references in the back of the manual to available service literature from Chevrolet. It measures 8-1/4" x 5-1/4", otherwise it appears to be virtually identical to the original.

      Re: 1972 Owner's manual

I may have resolved the difference in dimensions on my two, early editions, of my 72 Owner's Manual. I had a couple of people at Carlisle look at the two of them. Both of these gents are in the "paper" business and they noticed that whoever cut the shorter book, trimmed it a bit too close. Some of the tops of the words are actually cut out. Good old GM quality?

Maybe it was the same group that designed the vacuum-operated wiper door and headlights !?!
