    '72 Starting Procedure Label (Sunvisor)

My '72 came with a glued-on label, approx. 8"x4", located on the underside of the driver's sunvisor. The label outlined the procedures for starting both the manual and automatic cars. My original label is in very bad shape, not legible and tearing apart. I have tried to find a resource for replacing this label with a new (repro.) one, but have been unsuccessful. Corvette Central has something like it in their catalog, but once delivered, I found out that their's is a paper sleeve that actually folds around and fits over the sunvisor...NOT what my car came with! Does anyone know of a source for these glue-on labels??

    Kevin,
I had inquired about the same thing. Turns out mine never had one. They didn't start putting them on until November '71 and I have a Sept. build date. The problem from what I understand was the type of material it was made of. No one to my knowlege reproduces it as of yet, (this was about 6 months ago). Again, my seacrh stopped after I found out I never had one. Check the archives.

Al, thx. I will check the archives. My car's build date was May 10, 1972. And the material the label was made out of was sort of a textured, almost cloth-like, material. The original label on my car had a date on it, in the lower center of the label, and that date was 11-23-72. As a result, I figured they only began using them in Nov. of '71, or they had used them beforehand, but had somehow changed/revised them in Nov. of '71.

If anyone else knows of a source for these, please reply.

I THINK that the labels didn' start until the Calendar year of 1972, not in Nov. '71 My judging manual is with another member and I won't get it until Carlisle (right Patrick?). I have seen the paper sleeve that you are talking about but again, I think that these didn't start until later in the mid-70's. Paul Borowski has an original paper sleeve - maybe he will chime in here.

My 1970-72 TIM/JG leads me to believe that all '72s had these labels. But I'm not knowledgable enough (outside of what I read) about it to cast judgement either way.

Al, I tried to find your previous post in the archives, but could not find it.

The label is dated Nov. 1971, but most likely they were for January production. To our knowledge, cars built in the 1971 calendar year did not have these labels. But all after 1969 had the paper sleeve with ignition inter-lock data. I am not aware of anyone who reproduces these. I think it is the material that is difficult to reproduce.

For what it's worth ... I have a VERY original 72 (Oct '71) and there is no trace of a starting instructions sticker/label.

I should have added, I have a very early Nov. 71 built 72 and there isn't any sign of a visor mounted label. My car is a 36000 mile Top Flight car.

My 72 coupe was sold on Dec. 21, 1971 at Ryan Chev. in Monroe, La. It still has it's original cloth like label on the driver's side visor. The car was produced in late Nov. of 71.
