I have a chance to purchase a one owner 56 vette. I am very interested, but the vin plate is missing. Title and other documents are with the car to prove ownership. If I buy this car could I obtain a correct tag? Also I would want to restore the car and have it flight judged, is that possible with a replacement vin? Please help in my decision. Bill

Re: 1956 New VIN Plate?
Before you buy, check the VIN number on the frame, located on top of the frame rail about the front edge of the drivers seat.
If the VIN on the frame matches the title, then a VIN tag becomes a consideration.

Re: 1956 New VIN Plate?
There are people that will make up the VIN tags. Check with the license plate restorers. Some of them will make VIN tages. I don't know if they can do it for the early vettes or not. There was a guy, in Pennsylvania I believe, that would make VIN tags for just about anything. I was not able to find his contact information. He did have a website and I think advertised in Hemmings.
If nothing else, it would be pretty easy for a machine shop to CNC one from a sheet of aluminum.
good luck

You might try...
A.G. Backeast. I don't know if he can (or will) do you a VIN plate, but his patent plate work is very good.
