    C2 66 paint/trim combo?

On E-BAY, item 2429063917 is a silver 66 coupe with red vinyl interior. There is a picture of the trim tag which lists the paint as 986 (silver pearl) and the trim as 407 AG. According to the 66 TM&JG, that is red vinyl. Only thing is, on page 12 of the TM&JG the body and trim color combination chart seems to imply that those don't go together. My guide is the third edition. It indicates the only interior colors for silver in 66 were black, silver and dark blue.

Is this an ommission in the TM&JG or a phony trim tag? And what is the "AG" after the 407 trim code?

    Re: C2 66 paint/trim combo?

Rich --- Silver Paint w/red vinyl trim was valid in '66, although not recommended on the color combo charts. In the C2's, '63 thru '65 showed the silver/red combo as OK. Don't know why they would have dropped this obvious (to me anyway) combo. There are some who suggest that to get the non-recommended paint/trim arrangements, required COPO-type authorization. [I've seen a '67 whose "COPO" licence tag is due to this --- IMO, that's a bit of a stretch]. In some C3 years, this was handled by a "color overide" code, which my steel cities grey/blue convert. had.

The AG following the 407 on the trim tag means this was a coue with A31 (power windows), and NOT with options A82, A85, M35, or NO3. Refer to Noland's Vol2 ECL codes on page 375, Table 2.

Thanks. I got a similar response off line. He agrees that the special color combo was not done thru COPO.

Nolands book is one I don't have. I'll fix that tomorrow!

      Thanks again

I had a 71 which was Nevada Silver with red interior. So far as I know it was a standard combination.

Rich: I read somewhere, I am not sure whwere, that certain color combinations such as you mentioned were not listed as standard available combinations, because the people in the style department at that time, did not want what they considered to be ugly looking cars ordered by the public and seen on the street. The combinations were available however if the customer insisted on those colors.
