    1965 Battery retainer/heat shield

I have a right side mounted battery and I purchased a new hold-down/heatshield for it. My question is: According to the NCRS 4th edition Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide page 116. It states " The shield is a stamped steel spot welded to the top battery frame and is painted semi-gloss black". Does this mean ONLY the shield is painted semi-gloss and the top battery frame should remain raw stamped steel OR should everything be semi-gloss black? Thanks for your input in advance!

    Jim,
I have one of those also, and the entire piece is painted semi-gloss. However, since my heat shield doesn't have the small hole for the plastic strap, mine could very well be a Repop.

The two separate raw metal pieces (retainer and shield) were spot-welded together at St. Louis, then the assembly was sent through the dip-prime system; the finished assembly was semi-gloss black.
