80-82 corvette 4-speeds

I am interested in buying an 80-82 corvette. Unfortuately most of them are automatics and I would like a four-speed.

What type of four speed were installed in those cars? --a muncie? Has anyone tried an auto to four speed conversion? If I find a really clean car that is an auto, I may try a conversion. Thanks for any help. Joe

There were NO 1982 Corvettes produced with manual transmissions---ALL were automatic transmissions. During 1980 and 1981 4 speed transmissions were available but very few were produced. Less than 15% of the cars produced each of those two years were 4-speed cars.

The 4 speed transmission used in Corvettes during 1980-81 was what GM called an "M-18"(not the same designator as used for the RPO). This was a version of the Borg-Warner T-10.

I would not, personally, recommend a conversion of any of these cars to 4 speed configuration. Emissons legality would be ONE reason.
