    Birthday Calculator

I've seen several references to the NCRS Birthday Calculator recently, in addition to alot of questions related to the difference between the trim tag date vs. the assembly line roll-off date.

Is the calculator estimating when the trim tag was attached to the vehicle or when the vehicle came off of the assembly line?

I realize the calculator is probably estimating a date based on the extrapolation of data, but I'm not so sure about it's accuracy (at least for 68's). My car has an I06 trim tag (Saturday, April 6), yet the calculator estimated the date as April 4th.

    Re: Birthday Calculator

If you would email me the last five digits of your VIN, I would be more than happy to look into any discrepancies in the data given out by the Birthday Calculator. Perhaps others could also benefit if I could use this information to increase the accuracy of this tool. There is link at the bottom of the NCRS-WI webpage which will put you in touch with me. It is quite possible and often likely that the Birthday Calculator is not perfectly accurate. As you initially guessed, it is estimating a date based on the extrapolation of data in the same manner that you could use end of month build numbers to guesstimate the build date of your car. It is just a little easier to plug in your VIN number than it is to do the math yourself. The Birthday Calculator also has the advantage of using data tables to be a bit more accurate when there are known discrepancies, and the pure math estimation would be way off. If you
need something more convenient and comprehensive, an updated version of the Birthday Book is available at the NCRS online book store for about ten bucks.

In either case I highly recommend that you purchase a copy of the Birthday Book , as a free Java Applet is no substitute for the research, time, and effort that went into putting together the book. That kind of hard work deserves the support of anyone who might care when their Corvette was "Born", and is a steal at twice the price.
